I'm not Wigwam but since I own the printer, I'll add my comments:

1. Pretty sharp but no inkjet can beat a laser printer for b/w text
2. Very good
3. Very, very good
4. Yes, it doesn't have to be Canon's paper but the paper quality definitely makes a big difference (stay away from Kodak paper)

Too many models to choose from.

I'm thinking of the 860, 850 or 960 models to replace a HP 722 that died on me a few weeks ago. Is the 960 a "photo" dedicated printer, or can I use it for text printing as well? I'd be using the printer for that mostly.

The 900 series printers have additional light cyan and light magenta. Text printing on these is just as fine as on the lower series. They _might_ have a slightly smaller black cartridge, though. (Not sure, check the specs.)

Yeah the BCI-3ebk has 27ml of black while the BCI-6bk only has 13ml of black. If you do alot of b&w printing (ex: schoolwork), then buy a printer such as the i560 which still uses the original BCI-3ebk for its higher black yield.
