Canon EF-S 10-22mm on craigslist for $350

I have a Rebel XSi with the kit 18-55mm IS, 55-250mm IS, and f/1.8 50mm "plastic fantastic".

The 10-22mm is $350 on craigslist, and it seems to retail for around 750-800.

I'm not a pro and mainly shoot family functions and vacation spots.

Would you bite on this deal? Or does anyone have this lens to comment on it?

Yes, for $350 that's an incredible deal. Advice? Be very careful. Test it out, see if all functions are working, glass is in good condition, etc.

Occasionally you hit the CL jackpot. I hope you already replied to the ad with a phone number or something; these deals tend to go very fast in bigger cities (within the first 30 minutes from my experience).

The same seller has these items for sale:

Tamron asperical 28-80 for $65
Tamron 75-300 for $125
30D body for $450

Seems like they are dumping all their equipment.

Wow. At $350, it's a steal. I'd find a way to get the money. Use it and keep it if you like it. If you don't like it, you can resell it for a profit.

Definitely inspect this one thoroughly to ensure the glass is not damaged and there are no focus issues. I got the 10-22mm off CL for $500 and I thought it was a good price. Mine was in like-new condition with box and everything.

EDIT: It seems like he knows the retail price of the lens. Definitely ask why he's selling the lens for about half the retail price.

Just remember to ask him in person, with his right hand on a Bible. That's typically when he'll come clean and give you a full confession about how he stole the lens.

Many people dance around words when they post up auctions and ads. They don't want to lie, but they neglect details which may be considered important to you. If you ask them point blank questions, they'll reply truthfully.

For example, when buying a lens, the seller might state he's always taken great care of the lens since buying it three months ago. But I always ask the user if he bought the lens new or used. Many times, he'll respond truthfully that he's not the original owner. Whether that's important or not to me depends on the lens/price, but there's not confusion that it's not a three-month old lens.

family functions and vacation spots.
Can't go wrong with an ultra wide.

Try backing up in crowded room to take everyone in the frame, or backing up far enough for a grand canyon shot.
