Canon Coach Case + Canon SD110 camera = bad chemical reaction on metal camera housing?

I bought my GF a Canon SD110 a few months ago for her birthday and a Canon black leather coach case.

Now, the outside of the camera has these little black dots all over the exterior of the camera that almost look like spray paint overspray. I tried cleaning the camera exterior with some alcohol wipes and the stuff ain't coming off. She hasn't taken the camera anywhere "hazardous" and it hasn't been near water.

I can't get my camera to focus in close enough to get an idea of what it looks like, but just imagine black paint overspray as I mentioned above. The inside of the case also has some kind of felt/fabric liner.

Any ideas?

But it doesn't explain why the black marks would not come off. It looks almost like black rust spots

Should have read the reviews before buying the case. Looks like a high fashion low quality POS. What is the SD110 made of? If it's metal I'd try a little metal polish. If it's plastic I'd try some automotive plexiglass cleaner. Warning though, if the plastic is painted you'll probably ruin the finish with harsh cleaners.

I can't get my camera to focus in close enough to get an idea of what it looks like...

You've been "upgrading" one camera after another, and this is what you end up with?

It could be ink from the leather dye.

WTH are you talking about Ornery? You can't see the black dots from the distance you took those shots at. You can only see them if you have your eyes right up close on the metal:roll:

Please don't try to turn this into a Sony > all battle. Sony makes great P&S cameras, but that's all they really are.

If you can see the thread fibers in a $20.00 bill, you should be able to see anything visible to the naked eye. But why argue? A picture'sworth a thousand words. Let's see the best you can do. BTW, the second image was by a $450.00 Canon, and I can see every imperfection in the ornament.

(1) Ornery, this is a thread about an issue about the case of the camera causing spots on my GF's camera housing...not a pissing contest about how Sony DC's are somehow superior.

(2) I guess I was wrong. It's not even 8:00 here yet and I'm still sleepy. I was just recalling from memory yesterday whether you could see the spots that close or not. Once I actually got out of bed (I'm on my laptop) and actually looked closer, I was able to get some shots. I used some better lighting and was able to get a clear picture of the spots (Warning, picture is full size but that's the best way to see the spots):

(3) Do you use every opportunity you can to try to prove that P&S camera are somehow superior to SLR's?

Two problems with your complaints. One, you can't start a friggin' thread about "spots on a camera" without showing a damn picture! Two, you can't expect me to accept that fact, that a several hundred dollar camera can't be expected to perform the most simple P&S tasks!
