Canon A70 goes psychedelic.

I think the CCD went out on it. Any picture I take comes out looking like a bad tye-dye shirt. The pictures on my memory card that were there before look fine but anything new is a child of Haight-Ashbury during 1969.

I guess I'll have to buy a new digicam now though. This doesn't seem like something that is fixed easily. Sucks because I just got the adaptor and telephoto lens for it. If I buy new, it'll probably be up to the next generation of A-series.

Edit for pics

I'll try and get pics when I get home tonight. Unfortunately, my DSL has gone out at home. So, unless Bellsouth has managed to drop some pixie dust on my house, it'll probably be the same....

Work is the only internet access I have right now. I pulled up the backup dial-up numbers so I'll have that for tonight at least.

So basically everything electronic in your life is breaking?
Man, I'd turn off my computer and call a priest if I were you.

The same thing just started to happen on my A40. Seems to only happen when I use the flash ( I think...). I get random glowing circles. At first I thought it was a dirty lens, but it happens completely random. Maybe this is a common issue?

My A80 did that once, but it was only because the batteries were dying. Old pics showed up fine, but the new pics were all washed out and psychadelic looking. I popped in a fresh set of batteries and all was OK.

You should try that.

Edit: After re-reading your original post, I think we have different problems....

I've been repairing an A70 with screen problems for a friend. The screen image goes "psychedelic" for a while, then cuts in and out of black, then goes totally black. The screen image comes back if you whack it a few times, but it doesn't stay on.

I opened the thing up and looked for loose connections but found none. I cleaned the contacts under all the buttons, put it back together again, and it works fine for a few days. After it went bad again, I open it up and clean it again. It worked again for a few days and then went bad again.

That's as far as I've gotten.

Let me know if you want to open the camera up. Some of the screws are pretty well hidden (the one behind the button battery compartment).

Already have. Recharged my batteries and tried fresh regular batteries out of the box with no joy.

I got the adaptor from amazon.com. My sister gave me the telephoto lens as a gift. Might have been from amazon as well...not sure.

Neato.

The first shot was of my curtains....kind of earth tone green.
The second shot was directed at my TV.

Yep...figured as much. Guess I'll start putting money aside for a new one. I can't stand my wife's Sony DSC-P10. The delay between shots drives me up the wall.
