I was thinking about picking up one of the A40s after reading all of the glowing reviews, but noticed Canon is in the process of replacing it with the A60. Does anyone know any reason not to wait until this new model hits the stores? The only major difference between the two is that the new one has a metal body, has a new digital processing unit, and comes with a 16MB card rather than the 8MB. If the prices remain the same then it only makes sense to wait for the new one. Any one have more information on these cameras?

I would go with the A60 model between the two,or if you can afford the A70 even better since it has 3.2MP.

More info on the A60/70 here .

A60 since the A40 can only do upto 30 secs of video (due to buffer size) depending on enviornment while the A60 can do as long as a 3 minute clip.

I like the A60... it has full shutter and aperture manual controls. It also looks sturdier than the A40.

just a quick note about your memory card... 16mb won't do you much good...it's so easy to reach that limit since it'll only hold about 12-15 shots on highest resolution... you are much better off getting a 128mb or even 256mb since you can store a lot more photos on it without having to worry too much about how much space do you have left... plus, they aren't very expensive nowadays and it'll save you a lot of headache in the future.

Depends on the cost. If you can get a great deal on the A40 then go with that. If you need the extra video recording time and the prices are close, then the A60 is a no brainer. I suspect that the A60 will be priced higher though since it is a new model.
