agent2099 - If I tried to explain why CF is better than SM I'd probably screw it up. I remember reading a digicam review and seeing a long post here in either Hardware or Peripherals. CF > SM :D

The two best deals for a Canon A40 are:
1) OM.com $250 - $50 off $250 - 2% eBates = $196 with free shipping but tax is applied
2) Dell.com Home wait for another sale and use stackable coupons, free shipping and no tax in most states

Since I live in OR I bought my Canon A40 about 4 months ago for $250 with free 128MB (which at the time was a great deal, right now I'd rather save $50 and buy it for $200 and get my own CF).

RossMan - just a minor thing, but the ebate for OM is 4%, so the total would be $192. Every little bit of cash of the price helps :p

another option is to print out the OM 50 off 250 page and buy it from OD for $200 + tax.
OD is selling it for $249.xx(scanned) but shelf price is $299.xx.
I did this deal at OD with the OM 50 off 250 coupon. Good luck.

Great camera !!! With a lot of adjustment to play with if you have time.

It's Backordered at OM, and has been for several days. I missed the DELL deal and I'm trying feverishly to get in on this one so Please stop getting my hopes up again!...

:)

9Hawk mentioned getting a price match at OD. Do they do that? Can you do it online? Office Depot Online has it in stock at $250. Could be a matching deal... Any ideas?

ErmanC, no price match is needed. OD will scanned it at 249.xx but the shelf price is posted at 299.xx

But you can use the OM coupon at OD(at least at my OD, I don't know about other OD).

If you are just going to be using pics for the web, the A40 will be MORE THAN adequate. If you are going to print out 8x10s and you just want better overall image quality for all your pics, go with the Olympus.
Any 2mp camera will print great 8x10 prints using its highest setting unless its a crappy camera, which some are.... The printer also has a lot to do with how well it prints.

This is what I did I am not sure if I am right. I started the order with the link for $50 off $250 and then open a different window with the Ebates link before checkout to finish the order. If you refresh the page you should see the $50 off $250 coupon.

OPINION WANTED!! (I know I am probably in the wrong place for anyone to share their opinions, but please humor me)

I am looking at a Digital Camera, and have narrowed it down to the Canon A40 (2MegPx) for $200 after coupon, or to the Olympus D-550 (3MegPx) for $300 (Office Depot after coupon, + free 64mb Memory card).

Please chime in to what you think is better.

Thanks everyone for their input! Now I am as conFuzd as I wuz when I started, but I guess the real answer is that they are both great cameras and both great deals, it just matters what I do with for which one is best.

PS. Rossman, you should open your own Website and call it RossmanTech.com , you are pretty sharp and knowledgable.

w00t! just got my A40 tonight and love it. cant wait to take some pics. im not planning on printing anything over 8x10 (rarely) so the A40 was a good choice for me. plus i liked the form factor more than the olympus d-550 (was also considering between the two). plus it helped that i already have a 128MB CF that's not being used (was in my old 1.3MP Minolta Dimage)..

and i i'll be getting my Canon PSC20 camera bag tomorrow! yeah again! :D happy happy joy joy! :)

just gotta wait for the nimh batteries. eta dec. 4th..

Thump-

I would go with the D-550. BOTH are great deals, but I'd have to say that the D550 Zoom with 2 free 64mb Smart media cards for only $250 simply cannot be beat. And the camrea simply rocks. It has a TON of features for taking pictures in different conditions. And it also supports the external drive feature in the latest OSes, so you don't even need software to download the pics, Windows will recongnize it as a removeable storage device.
