Canon 6D is a bit of a bargain right now.

I just ordered one from B&H Photo yesterday. It is regularly $1700 but they are selling them for $999. Pretty good deal on a full frame DSLR if you ask me. It has been replaced by the 6D Mk II which has some improvements over the 6D but it retails for almost $2k.

I'm still using a Canon 30D so this will be a huge upgrade. Can't wait to play around with it.

You're just gonna bankrupt yourself on lenses and accessories, no matter what body you buy.

Nah, I already have a few L series lenses and a top of the line Canon flash. Might be tempted to pick up the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 lens though later this year.

I'm still eyeballing the Lumix DC-G9. Really want but it's expensive and I'd have to start over on lenses. The Sony RX100 V also is on my list but for mostly different reasons. The Canon is tempting but back to the lens problem; my lenses are Nikon.

Yeah, that is why I will never own anything but Canon. I'm invested in their lenses, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I do own a Nikon P&S underwater camera though. I bought it for a trip to Maui and took it in the ocean a few times. Very pleased with its performance and function.

I have an RX100 V, and absolutely love it. It's obviously not the quality of a DSLR, but when weight/size/carry-ability is paramount, IMO the RX100 line can't be beat.

My work camera is an RX100 I. I love it so I'm thinking about the RX100 V for home use to get the 4K video.

Eh, 6D Mark II and Pixma 100 bundle was $1350 after rebates. Sell the printer for $100 and you get 6D Mark II body for $1250. IMO if you're paying that much for a camera, it's worth it to pay extra $250 for more than 9 AF points.

From where? I ordered from B&H Photo. Their price on the 6D Mk II is $1899 after instant rebate.

That's why I said "was". It was a deal last year and I'm sure it'll come back again if you're willing to wait.

Got it. I don't really pay attention to black friday.

There is always something better just around the corner but this will be enough camera to keep me happy for the next few years anyway.

So true!

But I haven't yet, because I realize I cannot yet justify a new lens. I've largely been completely out of the photography loop for awhile, rarely use mine right now. But that's often because all the scenes I find myself at, I'm sorely missing the telephoto lens that would help capture a particular style. Depth compression and/or reach are so handy. But I refuse to buy any until I can afford good glass, relatively speaking. Even the often-stellar-but-in-ways-mediocre lenses make some sacrifices that will impact your shots at some point.

Just having a solid F2.8 70-200 would go a LONG way for me, but good glass is paramount. I've got a relatively good wide set, a 16-28, 50, and 80. The latter two Nikon, the former Tokina of all names (but actually quite stellar! It took a lot of research to convince me to buy anything but Nikon).

Nikon for life! Also Full Frame for life.

Because of the lenses. lol

If I bought a new kit, it'd be hard to stay away from Sony, their sensors are phenomenal.

I still would love a medium format but daaamn, those carry a cost with some astronomically silly numbers. I refuse to look elsewhere, body or frame size, until I at least fill out the reach aspect of my lens collection.

If I was going to get a new DSLR, I think that I'd want one that would shoot 4K video.

Yeah, I know... SLR's really aren't designed for shooting video. That said, If I'm carrying that thing around to shoot vacation photos, I'm not going to want to carry something like a GoPro for videos as well.

That said, I haven't used my DSLR (an old Canon Digital Rebel XT) in years. Honestly, my iPhone can shoot pictures that are almost as good unless I'm using one of my better (and bigger/heavier) lenses.

You have the right idea, Micro 4/3 is the tits. I sold (online) or gave away (to my sister) my Canon 40D setup years ago to switch to Oly's Micro 4/3 setup and haven't looked back. The IQ is amazing, the lenses are superb, but I went with the Oly OMD series instead - in body IS is just amazing. It's not even that the camera bodies are smaller and lighter, it's the lenses. Lugging around all that heavy bulky camera equipment was just eating away at the enjoyment of it all, Micro 4/3 gave me the best of both worlds.

i had to google to see what's the diff between the 5d and 6d.
seems Canon have wayyy too many models. off the top of my head...1d,5d,5ds,6d,80d,rebel,SL,m6. I get the impression Sony are simpler and comes in 4 sizes, small, medium, large, and extra large.

And, with Canon, smaller model numbers are better
1D > 5D > 6D > 80D > Rebel (But they confuse that by calling the Rebel the T7i)

Only 3 models have full frame sensors. The 1D, 5D and 6D models. The rest of them are 1.6x crop factor cameras.

I use to be like this. I owned a variety of Nikon SLR when I got started back in the early 80's. When I stepped away from photography in the mid-1990's there seemed to be this migration to digital. I gave digital a try around 2005 and was not very pleased. First, it wasn't FF and second it required a completely new way of presenting a final product. But I bought a couple og Nikon DSLR's that were not FF and when it came time to step up and move into FF digital I was looking at the D600. That's when the Nikon sh!t hit the camera world.

It wasn't that I was looking at buying the D600 but rather the problems with that product and how Nikon chose to handle the situation, which was appalling. I was actually looking at buying the D800 at the time but the exceeding poor handling of Nikon on the D600 front just scared the crap out of me. Buying a D800 body during the time the D600 fiasco was unfolding was not cheap and I just couldn't be that kind of a fanboy. So, my wife knew I was comparing the D800 to the Canon 5Dmk3 and she surprised me when Amazon had it on sale for $2700 (c. 2013). I got it and a cheap 40mm STM lense and waited for the 20-105 Sigma ART lens and when it arrived I was very impressed, and destressed, that I wasn't going to the Nikon poor handling which continued to plague Nikon customers.

I miss Nikon products and was fortunate over the years to not have problems with their SLRs, but even their non-FF products had issues that didn't easily win me over into the digital world. I do miss my favorite lens for its nifty macro capabilities but nothing seems to exist in N/C worlds for FF for a short zoom dual-purpose solution. Will I ever go back? That remains to be seen. But Sigma ART glass is just so yummy.

I'd love to see some of the pics you've taken with that camera/lens combo.

Ah, yeah I have a D600. Great camera through and through, the one issue being obviously the botched shutter mechanism. I had to send mine in and they fixed it, and I haven't seen any spots return. That whole process was no cost to me either.

I'm not aware of a similar problem on any other model, so I'd say that's quite a fluke for Nikon. But yeah they didn't handle it all that well initially, but IIRC they eventually made things right.
