Something with onboard stuff like video and lan is good. AGP port is good too. 1AGP, 3PCI (1 shared with ISA or AMR)...

Can't wait 2-3 months for an nForce. :(

Think about... you asked for a recommendation on micro-ATX mobos. Very few people here use them. Its not all that surprizing when you think about it. Its like asking about the best current Cyrix CPU.

I know there's a lot of system builders on here too, and many people ARE actually interested in the mATX format. I know that my Chaintech board is awesome - I have every reason to believe that the mATX version of my exact board would be just as good. I'm hoping other people may have suggestions as to options.

I'm gonna' go scout out some review sites now. ;)

The msi km133a 6340 looks a good board I have one waitng to install, but unfortunately it has no isa. If isa is a concern the biostar board look good, but currently are only available as the km133 with no 266mhz support

Just built two systems using the ECS K7VZM (microATX) mobo with the ViaKT133 chipset (AMD Duron & T-Bird CPU's). This mobo is rock solid, with onboard audio and LAN. Not good for overclocking though. Anyway, this ECS mobo is recommended by AMD also (see their website for mATX). I highly recommend this board.

Cowards! Admit there's some perfectly good micro ATX boards out there, and the only shortcoming is that you may get 3 PCI slots instead of six. And how many of you even USE 3/6 of your PCI slots? :D

Haven't deciding on what mobo or case yet. For cases it will probably be the Inwin V500 or Enlight 7150. There is also a cheapo matx case at tigerdirect which if i tried to mod and if it got wrecked wouldn't be out too much money.

If I decide to go small but not matx I may get a Lian-Li minipc30 (would look good next to my Lian-Li PC-12!)

Mobos I'm interested in include:
asus cusl-2
asus cuep2-m (not available in states yet?)
intel (try not to laugh!) d815epfv(?) (something like that, has onboard sound, video, lan)

I would prefer to have a minitower and be able to expand, but this desktop did catch my eye..
sleekline 1000 at http://www.pcpowercooling.com/products/sleekline/index.htm
but I don't want that mobo. would prefer to get case and some components only and add the rest.

There was recently a very long thread about this, something about best micro atx board for games- either I can't find it or it dropped thru the cracks of the search engine.

Anyway, there was a lot of talk about the soltek micro boards, both with and without integrated video. There's also a favorable review at viahardware. These use the "133a" chipset, and have all the performance options.

Here

Review

Right now, I'm encountering some difficulty on the home front about moving yet another new computer to the top of the priorities.. otherwise I'd be able to say how well one actually works....

And yes, I think that microboxes are the wave of the future, for mainstream pc's, anyway. Transistor radios were the size of a fat dictionary when I was a kid, now they fit on a single chip, in your wristwatch.... It's inevitable. In ten years our current boxes will be described as behemoths...
