Cannot restart/shutdown

Strange. I can not restart or shutdown my XP Pro lately. Only reset works, I tried reinstalling (refreshing), but it did nothing. Not even the command "shutdown" works. I didn't install anything relevant the past few days, so I have no idea what causes this. Reinstalling didn't help so my system files (such as shutdown.exe) should be OK, right?

By the way, I have SP1 installed.

Nearly found a workaround: these methods seemed to work for me.

Oops. My shutdown was caused by a worm because I didn't have the very latest update.
But this means I could shut down somehow...

Third edit: "shutdown -t 1" works now. I can not use the start-shutdown menu, but this one is good.

Did it on mine a while back as well Annoying isnt it.

Im afraid the only way that i found to get around it was to do a reinstall (fresh) or just leave your PC all day every day.

But if someone knows a solution i would like to know as well 🙂

BUMP - For a good cause 🙂
