cannot resolve server dns

I have a netgear wndr3700v3 router that i am trying to get setup- at first everything seems fine, gets into the genie setup no problem, but after a minute or two everything just stops, and i am told 'cannot resolve server dns'. the router has been reset to factory settings, from there i was able to update the firmware to the latest, but still cannot get a connection to last. this is happening when the router is connected to the cable modem, and only one pc connected to router. thanks for your attention
