I just helped my neighbor reinstall her system after their son downloaded "stuff" and got a dialer, tons of viruses, etc. We reformatted and did a full reinstall, but now when it starts up, it says we need to register windows, click next to continue registration, but all the buttons are greyed out, including the next button. I can't figure out how to register the darn thing so they can start using their system. We built our systems together with the Intel RetailEdge promotion, so I know the CD came with the motherboard and proc, so what's the deal?

Any suggestions?

Do you mean ACTIVE Windows? You have 30 days of using XP before you have to active. You can't even get to Windows?

It sounds like you did not get everything out .. what you need to do is completely wipe the hard drive
with something like a zero fill utility, then when you reinstall XP again, allow it to do a Format &
Fulll install while not connected to the Internet .... it is highly suggested that you make a Slipstreamed
copy of XP with SP2 built into it ... you can get the program at: http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=223562

Microssoft will send you SP2 on a cd if you do not have a copy yet .. you can also download & burn it to cd
