Cannot Read Picture Header

An individual gave me their computer to fix. I had to do a full reload of winXP. Pictures that were in the original My Pictures folder under Document and Settings can no longer be read. They show as jpeg files and of the right size, but when I click on them to open I get a message that says 'Cannot Read Header'.

If I copy them to another directory I still cannot open them.

Neither MS Viewer or Irfanview can open these.

Are these files recoverable?

Since the header is bad, you could probably open them in a hex editor and manually rebuild the header file on each.
