Cannot open directory listing when FTPing

This happens in all clients I try. I can connect to this particular FTP site and log in, but it hangs when it tries to get the directory listing. Is there a common remedy for this? I might add that the FTP is on a non standard port.
 
more than likely either you or the server is behind a router/NAT...enable PASSIVE mode transfer on your client and you should be all set.
