Cannot install Windows Updates after installing Windows Installer

I downloaded and installed the newest version of the Windows Installer v3 (redistribute?). I get an installation failure message when I try to install Windows Updates... Have restored with Ghost and tried from scratch... Not running an AV or Firewall... Once again, my OS is Windows 2000 SP4. I am Stumped 🙁

Nevermind everybody... I got it... This is what I did:

1) I went back to the Ghost of my fresh install
2) Installed Direct X v9c
3) Installed chipset drivers
4) Installed IE 6SP 2
5) Installed Windows Installer v3 (latest version)

I was then able to successfully download and install Windows Updates from Microsoft Windows Updates site...
