Cannot Install Win2k on Old COMPAQ Machine!!!

i'm trying to install win2k on an old compaq workstation (had 98 before). however when i boot from cd (after a fresh format) i get an error that says it "cannot open boot partition for signature" ...of some sort. in the setup menu, i also cant choose the partition to install the OS on, saying there is no device loaded, however in DOS i can see the C: and can even delete and reformat the logical drives...

sorry if this sounds a little confusing but any help appreciated. just reply or PM if i should be more specific...

thanks guys

Im guessing the HD isnt compatible with 2k. Check microsoft's 2k HCL (Hardware Compatibility List) on thier site.
