The motherboard is an Radisys TP945GM. I'm installing vista through a usb since I do not have a sata dvd drive or a converter.

Every time I try to create new partition, and then install vista it would say,
"Windows could not format a partition on disk 0. The error occured while preparing the partition selected for installation. Error code: 0x80070057."

If I create and format the partition first on another computer, it will say,
"Windows cannot copy files required for installation. The files do not exist. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code. 0x8007002"

I tried installing vista on another computer and it worked. Both through the DVD and the usb boot. I try swapping it after the installation was done but no luck. Is there a way to swap harddrive with the operating system to another computer motherboard?

These are the IDE settings for both computers. I hope someone can help me, I tried almost 2 days now. I think I will try another USB stick and see if that will work.

OS install problems can many times be blamed on on bad memory. Swap out some different memory and try again.

I'll second that, it sounds like you've done the standard troubleshooting. I had memory that tested fine in MemTest but caused some installation and other issues. If you don't have memory to swap out, try using just 1/2 modules (if that's an option) and then if it still fails swap the other one.

I bought a sata optical drive and installed WinXP SP3 because Win7 and Vista is giving me the same errors. Cannot format drive 0 for install, etc. But, WinXP loaded fine until it goes into Windows and then it gets an error of Automatic Updates cannot be found. Everything else is fine, until I rebooted WinXP and then it shows Windows cannot start because of Windows/System32/Config is missing. I fixed it but it would load into Windows then restart on its own. I'm going to try installing WinXP SP1 and see if anything happens.

I tried to do the repair option but its still saying bootmgr cannot be found. Do I install the hdd as the only drive in the other computer? Or a Slave?
