Rather than allowing the wizard to search for the driver in the directory have you tried manually specifying it?

I've got an IDE controller with the Si680 chipset and as memory served it took some finagling to get it running because it didnt want to find/load drivers on its own.

yeah...i've tried manual but it keeps giving me the message about the driver not being compatible with my hardware.
