I just bought an Intel SSD and I am trying to do a clean install of Windows 7. In the bios I selected AHCI on and now my bios cannot see it as a hard drive. When I disable AHCI it sees it as a hard drive. What is the issue here?

Have you tried updating the BIOS? Also, have you tried installing Windows 7 with the controller set to AUTO instead of AHCI?

Yesterday I was fiddling with a Zotac G43 ITX board and setting the controller to AHCI would cause the Windows 7 installer to lock up when detecting hardware. However, on AUTO Windows 7 installed just fine, and reported that Trim was working.

Everything is working swell now. What was happening is after the computer was loading all of the windows files when you boot off the cd, it would go to the splash screen and sit there for like 5 minutes. I would hear the dvd drive stop so I figured nothing was happening. After 5 minutes it continued. I have no idea why it was taking that long but everything is fine now. I have AHCI enabled and Trim enabled. Thanks for the help though.

Heh, that's what happened to me too, except I think I let the computer sit for 10 min on the splash screen with the optical drive stopped, so I gave up. With it set to AUTO I think it sat at that screen for 3-4 minutes. Maybe it wasn't locked after all?

Do you have option to set TRIM ? where ? I have Intel 80GB G2 SSD. Just completed mine last week. Only way I think my TRIM is working, looking through the Windows defrag status and make sure it never ran or selected. Please let me know.

I have ASUS P7P55D-E Pro mobo
