cannot format drive error during 2K install

what could be the cause of getting this error during the installation of win2k?.....i'm assuming my hard drive is probably bad b/c it couldn't be ne thing else....i know the ps and ram and mobo and cpu are fine

Zapping the MBR might not be enough if it's got a garbage partition table on it. PartitionMagic should be able to correct garbage partition tables; I know the Slackware bootdisks can do it (just go in and partition without setting anything else up), but you have to have a working knowledge of Linux to be able to do it that way...

i know a little about red hat linux but i don't see the association you're making?.....could you explain what you mean a little better?

Make sure that you are not trying to format a FAT32 partition greater than 32GB in size.

Windows 2000 and Windows XP, although they support FAT32 partitions up to 128GB, cannot FORMAT a FAT32 partition greater than 32GB.

With very little information in your initial post it would be very difficult to assess. If your controller does not have proper drivers supported by Win2k, it will not see the drive or partition.
