Cannot flash BIOS.

K, got my K7D Master-L today and the BIOS is 1.1. When I try to flash the BIOS from floppy, the system constantly hangs and I cannot get it back. From numerous reports, the 1.3 BIOS is much better than the 1.1 (stability, etc), so I am definitely wondering why I cannot flash the system. So far, I've tried taking out one CPU, changing ram, etc, but no dice.

Anyone with a tip to get the system flashed?

If the 1.3 bios file is in zip format, try copying it to your documents file, then unzipping it there. Then copy the unzipped files to a bootable floppy, or use a win98 bootdisk, then change to the bios floppy when ready.

Download and install MSI LiveUpdate 2,it will download the bios file and make a DOS bootdisk and then all you`ve to do is reboot with the floppy in and it will autoflash, before you do this make sure virus protection is disabled in bios.

BTW I did this lastweek with the LiveUpdate 2 program and it worked fine on my MSI board and yes it did make a DOS floppy bootdisk with the new bios file etc and autoflash on bootup.

You may ask while I did this, well I was having trouble with it flashing from my own floppydisk that I made , it would not flash for some reason(first time it would not flash the bios for me) so I decided to try the MSI LiveUpdate 2 program and it worked fine from that.

Figured this out, after searching the amdmd.com forums. Basically, there is a bug in the way you flash the 1.1 BIOS of this board. You have to do two things:

1. Clear the CMOS and DO NOT change settings (get our your PS/2 keyboard).
2. Jumper board to 100Mhz FSB.

Then you can flash the system to 1.3. Doing this, I got my system flashed and the board looks fine now. Win2k is working like a champ and Gentoo is getting installed as I type this. So far, so good.
