I made a backup of one of my drives on a previous install of windows onto an external drive. I've restored the files I need and cannot delete the "System Volume Information" folder off of my external (backup) drive.

Note: i can't "see" the "System Volume Information" folder in explorer because it has HS attributes set.

I've tried taking ownership of the parent folder but it still doesn't let me delete it.

Any ideas?

Hmm, taking ownership should have done it on that folder. Did you apply it to children as well?

1) ERD Commander will allow you to delete it
2) Format the drive since there isn't any important data left on it

I am having this identical problem and formatting didn't help although I used the windows formatting option and not a bootdisk or anything like that.

Help in disposing of my 22.1gig "System Volume Information" file from a former C: drive which is now a storage drive would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
