Cannot Delete Files

Good day,

Im having a little trouble with windows xp pro. anytime I try to delete a file it give me an error deleting the file
something along the lines of, did not write the thing down. "Cannot delete "file or directory name (does it with both)": Can't find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and filename" I have seen someting for it on ms's kb site but it was for ntfs formatted drives and had to do with take back ownership, but it is not there on a FAT32 formatted drive

Any thoughts would help, thanks

yeah, i tried deleting items in safe mode but it still cant. To add another little quirk to the problem i can delete items when I am in a command window in either safe or normal mode.

here is the actuall error message

Error deleting file or folder
Cannot delete "file/folder name": cannot find the specified path"
make sure you specify the correct path
