cannot creat recovery discs!!

i am wanting to re-install windows vista on my computer. i have a sony vaio laptop with vista pre-installed onto it. i'm trying to create recovery discs but every time i try to it will say: "cannot find the recovery drive, if you have not removed the recovery drive restarting the system may correct the issue". of course i tried restaring the computer but that did nothing. any help would be appreciated!!
 
What type of recovery drive are you using/referring too?

If you using a built in CD/DVD rewrite drive I've found that sometimes I have to physically remove and plug mine back in sometimes if it's not being recognized. This generally happens when I haven't used to drive for some time, Windows just seems to lose track of it.
