Cannot browse network.

I have three XP systems networked with one router. The network has been up for a long time but recently I tried browsing the network and got the network cannot be accessed typical dialog from all three machines.

I have made no recent changes to the systems. And if I go directly to a previously linked network folder it works fine but still no browsing.

I tried disconnecting the computers reinstalling network drivers and I reran the network setup wizard with and set up a network through one residential gateway but still no network browsing.

I went browsing as I created new shares on the systems and wanted to access them but could not. And I am fresh out ideas.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, I used it a long time ago as Win 98 had problems with the network with a router. Will try it when I get home.

Sorry to go off topic but why does everyone always complain about TCP/IP networking? I use NetBIOS over TCP/IP with four WinXP Pro comps here at home with no problem.

Couldn't find an XP CD so I tried installing the IPX NetBIOS protocol and on its own it did not work.
Then I did the one thing I forgot, uninstalled file and printer sharing from the computer that had most problem and reinstalled. After the install it asked to restart for some reason and now the network works beautifully again and with either TCP/IP on IPX.

Is it worth is to install NETBEUI or keep this as it is. And what is the difference between IPX NetBIOS and NETBEUI.

Thanks

It's quite possible that your TCP/IP stacks got corrupted somehow. I've seen many cases where uninstalling/reinstalling protocols fix browsing problems.

Trying pinging by IP only to all systems. If you get ICMP reply, then real networking is working fine and MS browser crap is not.

Are they separated by a router? What's you IP/mask/GW config?

It gets corrupted by looking at it sideway. Running the network conection wizard only makes it worse and in actualitydoes the corrupting. Hopefully your problems are solved, but methinks they are only solved until the next time. I got tired of this inconsistancy and installed NETBEUI. I didn't have the CD either as XP came pre-installed on my puter, but the two files you need can be found easily on the net. Do a google search for NETBEUI and you'll find them.

EDIT: Sorry, I quoted instead of edited.
