Cannot access http sites... HELP

One of my machines running XP SP2 cannot connect to any http webpage. I have been trying to figure out the problem, and I can only guess that port 80 has been blocked by something. But I do not see where I can find where I can open the port up.

This is a direct connection to a cable modem, so its not a router issue. I can connect to sites from another machine without a problem when hooked up to the same modem (after resetting), so it seems to be a windows issue.

hope it is not too late, but I would check your Internet Security settings. There is a setting to only allow ssl traffic or trusted sites... etc... I would check those out first.

i had the same problem once. i could connect to most sites, but not walmart, avon, newegg and a few others.

i had to clear my cache and reset my modem. the modem support told me that some times ... well, i dont remember what he told me, but he said something about settings getting stuck in the modem.

after i reset the modem, it was fine.

hope it works for you.

I had a similar issue as well, it turns out that the dsl modem needed to be reset😱
I wasted about 8 hours that day:|
