Canker sores

Gargle with hydrogen peroxide (don't swallow!) or with warm salt water (lots of salt). When I used to get bad sores on the tip of my tongue I'd fill up a teacup with hot salt water (I'm talkin' like 5 tablespoons of salt) and stick my tongue in it for like 10 minutes. It burned like hell and gave me tongue cramps, but the next day the sore was gone.

Forget those home remedies, I've been a canker sore victim for years and none of those offer anything but temporary relief. The only real solution is a pharmaceutical product called Debacterol. It's not available over the counter and is not a prescription medication either. It is however, directly available through some dentists and possibly family doctors. Basically, it's a tiny bit of liquid you apply directly to you canker sore. Stings a bit, but after a few seconds all the pain literally goes away. Permanently. No more pain. Have your acidic orange juice waiting for you because you'll enjoy it without any pain, permanently, until your next sore develops that is. It's the closest thing I've come to a miracle drug.

there isn't a thing you can do to make it go away sooner, but after 7-10 it should start feeling better.

That's what I ment. I'm suprised it took so long for someone to figure it out.

okay last night i tried putting salt in some warm water, and it didn't really work that well. like it didn't hurt so i just figured it wasn't working. then i looked around in the medicine cabinent and found this stuff called cepacol or something and i sprayed it all over the place and it feels a lot better this morning.

With apologies to Vegetation, warm salt water has always worked well for me, but I'm a very occasional sufferer (actually I can't specifically remember the last time I had a canker sore).

i drink a ton of juices (grapefruit, apple, orange, anything...) and i'm pretty sure thats why i've been getting them. i only try to drink pop on the weekends. when i'm at work i only drink water unless my boss buys me a drink from the vending machines. but yeah, so during the week its strictly water and juice.

Orabase is fantastic as a pain reliever.

Zilactin-B can be good as well. Stings for a moment and then coagulates into a sort of shell over the sore.

I've also tried Oregano extract. A drop or two a day... Verdict is still out on that one

They make stuff for cankers. Cankerest or something. Go to your local drug dealer .. er uh, store.

I use strong listerine a few times a day, or more if necessary. You need to keep your mouth as bacteria-free as possible and it will heal. The alcohol in listerine does the trick, much better than hperoxide as well.

Lysine is the rate limiting amino acid for growth and wound repair. It *works* but you could just as easily just eat more protein as buy a separate lysine pill. Of course it just facilitates your own body making the repairs, it doesn't do anything on its own.

Drink more water with foods, especially salty foods. Brush twice a day. I've never found a way to "get rid" of them other than waiting it out.

Then let me rephrase...it doesn't work for me. Save your money if you're thinking about buying L-Lysine supplements.

Apologies not needed since it probably was not even a canker. Sounds more like a small gash in your mouth after biting a sharp object (pointed potato chip for example, or stabbing yourself with a toothbrush is another occurence), if salt water made any difference to it.

They are not the same, just as herpes and cankers are not the same either. Salt water treatments are number 5 on the list, while canker sore sufferers have already made it to treatment number 100.

I would try Niacin (vitamin B3), since a deficiency could cause canker sores. However, I would be careful not to take too much because it could cause flushing (not pleasant), when taken in the form of nicotinic acid, and liver damage in extreme cases Do not exceed 300 mg a day (i.e., 100 mg three times a day maximum). Do not take it if you have liver disorder.

Alternatively, you could take a B-Complex, which usually includes Niacin.

Good luck!
