This is the 2nd one I've gotten in the last couple of weeks!
I think it's caused by lack of a certain vitamin that is in fruits and vegetables.
But what's more important is how do you get rid of them faster?

I heard that taking Vitamin B Complex can prevent canker sores. Stress can cause them as well. For some people the SLS in most toothpastes can cause them. Once you got one though you pretty much have to wait it out. Get some kind of pain releaving cream/gel...

Listerine that sucker!
Also, I use this Chinese spray. It's black powder, but seems to be somewhat effective. It's like wintermelon spray or sumthing.

I almost always get them after I bite myself. Sometimes I wonder if there is some sort of virus that causes my mouth muscles to go spastic and bite myself -- thereby causing a canker sore to appear.

Sodium Laureth Sulphate(SLS) in toothpaste can be a cause for canker sores, it was for me. I used to get 2-4 canker sores a month when I used normal toothpaste. About 4 years ago I switched to Rembrant for Canker Sore suffers, which is an SLS free toothpaste. Since then, I rarely get canker sores at all.

vash's ancient, secret recipe for getting canker sores to heal quickly

1. rub salt into wound repeatedly.
2. suck on highly acidic things (namely cirtus fruits like lemons, grapefruits)
3. rub salt into wound repeatedly (every few hours).

in about a day the wound will feel a lot better. a few minutes of pain will make tomorrow with this technique.

I just ask my neigbor (an orthodontist) to put on this stuff called Debacterol. Its hurts like a mother when he puts the stuff on, but after a minute or two, its gone. forever.

I second the salt.....though I would use an ice cube to the area first to reduce the duration of the pain.

Salt is cheap and works well.

supposedly raisins help, too. the interior, anyways. split open a raisin and hold it to the canker sore.

Nah, although if you put gunpowder in your mouth and ignited it, perhaps by chewing a wintergreen mint...canker sores would no longer be a prime problem for you...
But this stuff is pretty cool, it's like wintermelon spray, and it stings a little, but it does a pretty good job...course, it's probably hard to find here in the US, so stick with Listerine. It should kill some bacteria and help it heal.

I wash out my mouth with diluted peroxide. It fizzes and feels funky but it seems to make them heal faster.

I know exactly what you're talking about..my mom puts that stuff on when we get canker sores. Does listerine really work? I have this canker sore right on the inside of my lower lip..and everytime I eat or talk, it brushes against my teeth...and ouch!!

Maybe when I go home in a couple weeks, I'll bring back some of that watermelon power thing. Stuff tastes like crap..but works great.
