2nd for Kenalog - also try an OTC gum / tooth relief gel w/benzocane.

Ain't no way to get rid of 'em faster once they're there....try changing toothpastes though and see if you can identify any triggers that cause them (e.g. foods, lack of sleep, stress).

I usually do a few things. I have no idea if this helps but I do it. Can't hurt.

I take 10 grams of L-Lysine, then I take 1 gram of Echinacea twice a day. So 20 grams total of L-Lysine a day and 2 grams of Echinacea a day. I also use things with benzocane or phenol to help with the pain.

there is no way to get rid of them except time. and canker sores are not due to the herpes virus.

Actually they are a form of the herpes virus just not the herpes virus everyone knows and hears about.

Haha, no way. I've had a canker sore for the last couple days now, and I waddle over to ATOT and find someone else with a canker sore on the first page!

Mine is placed in a very inconvenient spot, right at the spot where my pointy teeth meet my lips, so everytime I talk or eat, my tooth pokes into it.

What I've been doing is just gargling with hydrogen peroxide. Stings a little bit, but it's the good kind of sting. The sting that feels like the sore is deflating and spewing out gaseous bubbles. After you're done gargling with the peroxide, you have a good hour or two of pain-free mouthing.
