So selling the tavern might take too long. Well he already wasted a month since winning the lotto, and I'm sure he could've started the process a few months ago.

This was my main problem with the story too. I'm sure if he sold the tavern at a reduced price, he could get it sold sooner. Combining the two sources of money, he's surely have enough or close enough that he could get the treatment. I think this guy wants to get the treatment and still be rich afterward if he lives.

That and the fact that he gave himself lung cancer by smoking makes me decidedly unsympathetic.

Well I guess once he dies his payments cease as well.

My wife went through 2 months of cancer treatment about three years ago, total bill came to about $400k. Fortunately we had good insurance, unfortunately she passed away at the end of the two months.

Had she had lived her bill would have been much larger as the treatments would have continued. Cancer is expensive and if you don't have insurance you are screwed.

This story attempts to pull at the heart strings, but since when does anyone except stupid people think a $1 million lottery ticket means you get a check for $1 million? It is ALWAYS an annuity unless you get the lump sum at which point you get a lesser amount approximately equal to the present value of the annuity.

If needs the cash now, he can call JG Wentworth or their competitors...

Umm..hey! I lost my winning lottery ticket too! Just send the money to my home address, thanks.

So what stops that guy from "losing" the winning ticket, and his best friend "finding" it?
