Cancer scare- need to vent

Update sounds positive. Hope the surgery goes well and isn't too much hassle getting done. Hope you also don't loos much of your stomach capacity.
 
looks like important surgery but at least once it's done, it's gone. Also if the surgeon had to specialize he should be good.
Let's hope it fixes your GERD and doesn't reduce your stomach too much.
 
I'm disappointed to hear that's it's cancer but glad to hear it's a 'sissy' cancer. I hope everything goes as well as it can

Actually, that might be a plus. That's what they do in bariatric weight loss surgery, so as a side effect I'll take off a few pounds 🙂
 
May your surgery go well. It sounds like you'll have someone doing it who's done it many times before. That's a plus.

Will you still have to take antacids after the surgery? The reason I ask is that PPI-type drugs (proton pump inhibitors) like Nexium also interfere the action of lysosomes. These are really essential for the proper working of every cell in your body. You're much better off using an H2 inhibitor like famotidine (Pepcid) - if you can get away with it. Sometimes you can't and have to use PPI.
 
Sounds like you and your doctor have a plan.Hope you have a good outcome, the surgery goes well and you have a fast recovery. Most likely it sounds like you will make a full recovery and be good as new again!
 
I don't log in here and post much anymore either. Seeing posts like this from one of the old school guys is what catches my attention and have to post.

I take Pepcid & it works well
 
Assuming you use these things, maybe this will be the catalyst to cut out unnecessary things like soda, alcohol, diet drinks, etc, and get down to basics. Worked for me, still holding at 202 lbs. I wonder if you will need any chemo or radiation therapy with this, or just surgery. Sounds like its very localized which is a plus.
 
Here's hoping for a quick recovery.

Do they have to remove part of the stomach since the gist might grow back or is it just part of the surgery?

They actually have to remove the area around the tumor, so up to 1/4 of my stomach will be removed. I guess that's not a big deal though because it essentially grows back (the surrounding area stretches and takes the place of the removed area depending on how much I eat).
