if you saw it running properly and you weren't impressed there is something wrong with your vision - seriously, the difference is huge

With Comcast, I have all the major networks - NBC, CBS, ABC, and FOX in HD, Discovery, ESPN, TNT (which has much better HD basketball than ESPN does, why?), and the pay channels as well, and it costs $5 a month extra, that's it.

Like dial-up, I'll never go back!

I have the same question. I'm about to buy a new TV and DVD player, and have no idea what to get. I have digital cable, but the only HD content available (for $15 extra a month) are local channels and two HBOs (I already get 6 or 7 HBO channels). The set-top box also comes with DVR, though, which I figure is big plus?

Any recommendations?

As far as TV's go, I highly recommend the Sony 42" Wega LCD Projection HDTV(KDFE42A10). My buddy has it and I wish it was available when I bought my HDTV a year and a half ago.

Just got that one last week.

However, I must say, HD is really just a silly waste of money IMO, but I felt like buying something fancy with some of my poker winnings.

Sports fans MUST have HD.

Primetime dramas and what not - just seeing it in widescreen makes it much more cinematic, and the extra detail is just a bonus.

HD doesn't have to cost you anything - get over the air digital, or start a new contract with a cable or satellite company. Dish, DirecTV, and Comcast here all offer free HD equipment for new customers.

PS. DVDs are not HD. Not even close. That's why we're waiting for Blu-Ray and HD-DVD.

I think it is foolish for anyone buying a new TV to get one that is not HD. In fact it is downright moronic. However, those who are on the fence should probably wait until 06'. HDTV is still in its infancy and the content is IMHO still limited. But things are improving rapidly, so rest assured even if you get a set now it will be well worth it in the future. And of course SDTV isn't going to look as good, but in a few years most everything you want to watch will be in HD anyways so it will all be a moot point.

Just wondering. Do you have a cable card or are you using the box provided by Comcast? Also is there a difference in terms of picture quality between the 2?
Thanks.

its WAY worth it, especially since most everything I watch is primetime TV and is s howed in HD, and looks 10x better than normal SD TV.

i can't go back to watching sports in non-HD, I just can't do it anymore ...

That's what I'm thinking too. I even asked my brother in law about HD service who works for Comcast and he said it's only $5/month on top of your other service. I believe this includes the rental fee for the HD box too.

Amen. I can't live without HDTV anymore either, which doesn't cost a penny over regular digital cable. Not to mention my HDTV DVR, which is beyond amazing and worth the paltry $10 a month.

I'll never go back.

We have a Samsung 30" HDTV with a tuner built in, and we watch HDTV programming over the air. WE still have analog cable, but we may drop it this year. There is a lot of digital programming over the air where we are.

No kidding. I had never watched CSI: Miami before last night and I flipped it on while testing my OTA tuner. Holy crap, the color was just incredible. However, David Caruso's face does not need to be in HD.

LOL I hope I don't get killed for saying this ... but Conan Obrien's face really doesn't need to be seen in HD as well. it looks like he's just wearing $100 worth of makeup.

is there REALLY that much difference and is it worth the extra cost?

It's a pretty substantial difference, but whether it's worth the cost depends on the individual. Personally, I watch shows like Law & Order. I don't think I'd enjoy watching Law & Order any more in HD than I do on my plain old 19" TV.

The HD content wasn't worth the extra montly expense. Only about 7 HD channels where I live and the content is rather dull. I'll probably re-subscribe to the HDTV service once more channels become available, but for now I guess I'll be sticking to watching DVD's only.

on a good hdtv with hd signal its like night and day. its like from black and white to color, its crystal clear. pbs has been using hd for years now so even many of their rerun documentaries are in hd. free over the air signal too. its like how nature films are so much more interesting in imax because of the immersive experience that is so much more near reality, hd gives you such a clear picture it makes you feel more like you are there with nature. low res just isn't compelling. every prime time show worth watching is in hd, and free over the air in most places. hd coverage is pretty much everywhere now

We had to spend $398.00 for a HD digital terminal, then an additional $15.00/month for the channels. I mostly watch the odd hockey game or two a week in HD. Can no longer justify it. Some HD pron would be nice. On second though, that would be rather nasty.
