The HD content wasn't worth the extra montly expense. Only about 7 HD channels where I live and the content is rather dull. I'll probably re-subscribe to the HDTV service once more channels become available, but for now I guess I'll be sticking to watching DVD's only.

Apparently yes. Although, I also cannot justify the cost or switch over for at least another year or so.

It's a HUGE difference. Watch the Discovery channel in HD and it'll blow your mind.

I have the same question. I'm about to buy a new TV and DVD player, and have no idea what to get. I have digital cable, but the only HD content available (for $15 extra a month) are local channels and two HBOs (I already get 6 or 7 HBO channels). The set-top box also comes with DVR, though, which I figure is big plus?

Any recommendations?

Unless you're a sports fan.

Only for sports events. No major difference when watching Lost or whatever, but being able to make out fine details while watching a football game or the Olympics makes a big difference in the experience.

And if you call Comcast you can usually swing a deal and get HD for free. And most nicer new TVs are HD compatible already.

As far as TV's go, I highly recommend the Sony 42" Wega LCD Projection HDTV(KDFE42A10). My buddy has it and I wish it was available when I bought my HDTV a year and a half ago.

Why not grab an OTA tuner in the meantime, if you like primetime network TV, that is and you have good reception? Don't know if they have Radio Shacks in Canada, but they were clearing out a tuner for $80 or so (check Hot Deals).

I have seen it (in store) and I am not overly impressed with it, although it is pretty. I can wait till prices drop considerably;)

I hear you. I haven't seen a color TV, but I enjoy my black and white TV. Is there much difference in these color tvs out now?

in store quality can't compare.... it is usually split so many times you don't get to appreciate the true beauty of Discovery HD...

sssigh, now i miss my HD :(

wtf ... the HD extra fee with comcast is $5/mo ... that is NOTHING.

its WAY worth it, especially since most everything I watch is primetime TV and is s howed in HD, and looks 10x better than normal SD TV.

i can't go back to watching sports in non-HD, I just can't do it anymore ...

I am not talking about Best Buy, CC, etc.

I saw it in a local high end Audio/Video store that caters strictly to home theater and high end equipment

No HDTV for me until HD-DVD players/recorders are widely available and cost $250. Then I will move to HDTV.

I don't expect most to be broadcasting in HD until 2008 or longer.

i just got a new hdtv and justifying the cost for DirecTV HD is hard to do. only six or seven channels and the directv hd-tivo is like 600-200mir

I just had an HDTV for about two days, ended up returning it. It wasn't the best HDTV (27" CRT with only one set of component inm no HDMI, etc), so I decided I'd rather wait until I can afford one with the features I want. What also spurred the decision was that there just isn't a ton of stuff to watch in HD. We have about 12 channels, and while I was very impressed with how it looked, it wasn't enough to justify it for me. Also since it wasn't a top of the line HD, the non-HD content looked like absolute ASS on the TV. Since most of the stuff I watch is still non-HD, I couldn't live with that. I'll probably wait until late this year or early next when I can get a good TV with all the features I want in a TV.

I think to truly appreciate HD you really need a large screen at least over 40 inches. However, that is just my opinion from what I witnessed.
