I had a pretty good plan under Cingular, 650 AT minutes and unlimited n/wkd for $40/m but the reception was horrible in my apartment. If I wanted to hold a conversation where I can hear and not get dropped, I would have to go beyond 10yards from my place. I put up with that for 2 years.

Just switched over to Verizon this week with the 450 AT minutes and unlimted n/wkd for $40. Yea the AT minutes aren't that great but so far the reception has been excellent. Never below 3 bars and most of the time I'm getting 4. Sound quality is way better so I don't have to keep asking people to repeat themselves. I went with the e815 and can't wait to unlock the crippled BT features.

Damn that is a good deal... I am currently with Cingular for $40/month with 400 AT mins and unlimited nights/weekends

I haven't had too much of a problem with reception though

I made the same move 3 years ago. I lived in Diamond Bar and the only service that had any reception at my house was Verizon. When I had a contract with cingular for 3 years I only used up 50 minutes a month on my bill because the phone never had service. Why have all those minutes and roll over if you have crappy service and wont use them in the first place? I hope Cingular goes to hell.

Just pray you don't ever need support from VZW. Network is great but the people... well... are not very knowledgeable.

i had been with verizon for like 4 years, went to cingular the other week, horrible signal in my area, then went back to verizon and got the e815 too. i was worried that having a digital phone might not work so well since i'm in a rural area but it barely went to 2 bars or below on my way to work. so far i'm pretty happy. got the e815 for $50 too.

In one month, I left Sprint for T-Mobile since they offered me a great deal on a phone (Razr) and minutes and found out that their reception was terrible at my place, my gf's place and at work. Basically, the 3 places I would be at any given time. I left T-Mobile for Verizon during the grace period and couldn't be happier. I got the LG VX8100 and it's the best phone I've ever owned.

Cingular nailed me $400 in early termination fees becuase I cancelled 3 days before the contract was up. I had no idea, they just said it was up in October, so I took that to mean Oct 1st. I cancelled on the 27th, and it turns out it was the 30th :|

Jerks. Lawyer said I'm screwed.

Talk to someone else at Cingular.... my brother just switched to Nextel and Cingular just wanted 10 month for the remaining months on his contract.... so sounds like it should be 10 bucks.

Back on topic. Cingular and Verizon are exact opposite here. I have had my Cingular service for about 11 years now and wouldn't trade it for anything. 1200 mins/Unlimited nights & weekends/Unlimited Mobile to mobile/59.99 plus 19.98 for the two extra family lines. I didn't think it was that bad.

I havn't switched my wireless provider since the first day I ever bought a cell phone.

Most of that has to do with getting the best possible number.

I made the switch from Cingular to Verizon a couple years ago after Cingular double billed me and refused to fix it until threatened by my bank.

I couldn't be happier.

How could you not ask the rep cancelling you ? Or at least cancel through a rep to make sure all is kosher ? I purposely took the early termination hit when I went from Sprint to VZW... in the end I only lost $50 to it since VZW offered $100 for switching over. It was worth it.

I spoke with the manager of billing...said it was a no go. Only 9 states have a law that says you must prorate your cancellation fees. I'm not in one of those states, so again, I'm screwed :(

The situation was Cingular does not service the area I moved to. The rep said my contract was up in October, so no big deal. Just let the contract run out and switch services (I called at the end of September). I got my bill, and the due date was Oct 27th. I called them again to make sure everything was OK, and the rep said "Yep, the account is cancelled." I got a bill in November saying I owed $400. Argued with 4 people in the billing department for over 2 hours. Called my lawyer, he called Cingular to get the facts, and said there was no case. They were jerks for sticking to the contract so closely, but in their bounds. :|

Hell no! I'm ranting that I'm screwed because of a technicality.

I switched from T-Mobile to Cingulair because I was having reception trouble, every where I went I got 2 bars, 3 on a good day. The service was way too shakey for me. I signed up for a 500 AT/m plan (family plan) for 60$ a month. First month the bill was 150$, we went to the store, they told us it was first time charges and next month the bill would be 60$ + taxes (which came to like 7.65). Next month the bill was 94$, the month after was 73$, and this month it was back up to 85$. This is with being well under the 500 mins (we use maybe 150 a month) and no text messages or internet. When my 2 years are up looks like I'll be heading to Verizon, although Cingulairs reception is much better than T-Mobiles.

But wouldn't it only be a totally fair comparison if the same make/model phone was used with both providers? Some phones are definitely better than others when it comes to reception. Same thing with sound quality.
