Spend some time on the howard forums, they use cingular's towers, but coverage ISN'T the problem in cali, theres plenty of coverage. Basically, the problem is the ability to handle a large volume of calls at once (mainly, nights/weekends, when everyone is using their free time), and for that, T-Mobile has a large advantage, apparently they've installed two switches to every one cingular has. People's biggest complaint with cingular is the "fast busy" they get either when trying to send or recieve a call, NOT the coverage.

I heard ATT and Cingular were gonna merge. This true?

Ive had nextel for the past 2 months and LOVE them. I use the walkie-talkie feature (direct connect) all the time and I have the free incoming calls plan. Each month i use well over 10000 minutes. No other wireless provider can give me that amount of time for $60 a month.

My gf and I both dropped Cingular for Verizon and Verizon has been much better. We live in the LA County and SF Bay Area. Too bad the Motorola v60 batteries need so much recharging. 🙁

What are the howard forums? forums dedicated to mobile phone coverage issues? Can you give a link? I was planning to switch from Verizon to Voicestream and was wondering if Voicestream service in new york city has improved since last year.

Yeah, its a cell phone forum, link . I'm not sure about anywhere else, but I was in brooklyn a few weeks back and the coverage was NICE, I was in the basement of the building and my signal was still spiked.

lol
nope not one bit of truth to it. AT&T will be launching the rest of their GSM in the bigger markets but all GSM towers belong to them. Some of the confusion might be from people thinking that AT&T will be using cingulars towers and therefore be merging with them but that's completely not true.

And please understand my comments in my previous post are only related to coverage and word of mouth on the west coast, I have no idea what it's like on the east coast.

The thing I like about t-mobile is that you can choose either to use tmobiles or at&t's towers in the network selection thing.

So whenever I have a problem with tmobile (hasn't happened yet) I just switch to att.

I live in Austin and also rec'd that notice with my bill 3 days ago and noticed my chance to get out. But I only pay 41.91 w/tax for 600 anytime minutes (now, 300 18mos ago) and like 3000 night/wk with a free nokia phone. I only have until Dec. 26th for my current 2 yr contract to expire. Verizon c.s. is suck. In fact, I swore to myself that I would NEVER do business with them again. Well......this last 6 months their c.s. is not AS suck as b4. I figure most c.s. at cingular, voicestream, bestbuy, etc. is suck anyway these days no matter how you slice it. Can anyone suggest a better deal from somewhere else. $5 late fee is b.s. even though I've learned you have to pay the day you get the bill. In the past, after 5 days they consider it late. No b.s. Any recommendations would help. Peace

So what areas does this cover?

I checked my Wifes bill and there was nothing with it. So I am guessing this is a slow roll out then of the change.

is cingular ever gonna have a deal like this? lol, i have 1 year left on my contract and can't wait to get rid of it

i want to get out from ATT as well, their quality sucks, and my GF got me a t-mobile phone.

Rally1: how did you help your GF to cancel her service???

Sprint have a back out plan?

Yeah I want to know the same thing. I just got stationed somewhere that sprint doesn't cover. Don't fell like paying $150 for something that was out of my control.
