When people use terms like outraged, or rage, when it comes to a joke, I just think "man, those people lead really shallow and empty lives". It's all just so phoney.

Jim Norton put it best.
"There's nothing wrong with being offended by a joke. You're only an asshole when you expect someone to be punished for it."

It's only racist if its against a certain race and we are supposed to be outraged. Otherwise, it's just a joke.

i watched that episode on Roku the other day, then saw that article. i was like wtf CONTEXT PEOPLE YOU IDIOTS. Oye, people are dumb.

His character is supposed to be obliviously racist, wealthy, and ignorant. I don't understand the outrage, this is why his character is so popular.

This is how he makes fun of conservatives.

Sounds like a troll to me.

It appears the outrage mainly started because of one person on twitter:
http://time.com/42174/we-want-to-cancelcolbert/

She now has written articles AND done at least one TV interview I know of. No agenda there, huh?

Other people are jumping onboard without seeing the context or even (ever?) the show.

Huffington Post actually muted her during a discussion because she's that retarded (omg ableism).

she's just your run at the mill SJW, she just managed to yell a little louder than they normally do.

I am a fan of Colbert and I am Asian. I'll speak to this issue in a more general sense and not specifically about Colbert. I am all for this type of humor as long as the person making the joke is perfectly comfortable and willing to make such a joke about any race and stereotype. There are certain comedians and entertainers that will stay away from specific groups because they are worried about backlash but will gladly joke about another group because they view them as less threatening or think that it's more socially accepted. Either everything is fair game or nothing is. Don't just joke on whites, asians...whatever, because you think those are the "safe" races or that you won't get beat up.

I take offense they call Colbert satire. Perhaps, when he was on the Daily Show, I would consider his character satirical of conservatives, but nowadays it is nothing more than over the top silliness. There is very little finesse left.

watch out guys. smackababy takes offense!
