I subscribe to a polling service here in Canada, and about once monthly i get a poll indicating cross country results on hot button issues in Canada. The results have always been very accurate and logical conclusions are usually drawn.
The latest email was on Canada-US defense relations.
Here was the question and results.
Random telephone survey of 2,000 Canadians conducted by SES Research
between March 17 and March 22, 2005 (MoE ±2.2%, 19 times out of 20).
Percentages may not add up to 100 due to rounding.
Question - As you may know, Canada is not participating in the US
missile defence plan. Would you prefer to see Canada's relationship
with the US on defence issues get closer, stay the same or be further
away?
34% Stay the same
32% Be further away (44% in Quebec)
30% Get closer
3% Unsure
1% No difference
I admit Canada gets a free ride in their geographical position. But i think it is interesting that there is such an even slit of what to do in terms of defence alligences. I suppose one could make the case that canadians are happy overall with the current stance if there is such an even distrobution around the centrist position.
Note how the conservative party wants to align Canada with the States more, where Quebec disagrees, and the conservatives want to break into Quebec.
