Canadian's healthcare system is "imploding"

It's like something out of that twilighty show about that zone.

Kinda eye-opening to see that the rest of the world isn't so perfect either, maybe we should improve upon the system we have before we're so eager to adopt another countries system. I would hate to see us have to overhaul the health care system another 10 years down the road when we find that the last one couldn't sustain itself.

I'm unaware of a single American politician who is advocating a Canadian style system where private insurance is outlawed. Our system is far further along on the whole 'imploding' thing than Canada is, and were Canada to increase the percentage of GDP that it spends on health care by 60% or so in order to equal the US's catastrophic spending, I wonder how they would stack up then.

There's this guy, Obama, dunno if you've heard of him he's kind of a big deal, and he's said on a couple occasions he's in favor of a single-payer system. And there are several republicans and democrats who have voted previously for a single-payer system.

And yes there are many who do not have access to the health care system in the states which I find troubling, but I don't see how you could describe it as "imploding" unless you are referring to medicare which will be bankrupt soon if we don't do something about it. The private sector still makes a profit, it can sustain itself and continue to be the epicenter for development of new drugs and new advances in technology.

Really, because I think people including Obama have been for it in the past. We already know that his public option would see a big reduction in private, so 6 of one half dozen of the other. Thankfully the opinion has seemingly taken this off the table, at least for now.

Of course not because they know they can't sell that. There are multiple clips of all the principle Democrats currently pushing this plan stating that their goal is to get the US to single payer and they are fully aware it is possible to do this without ever explicitly outlawing private insurance.

The doctors here in Canada are overworked and underpaid, that's why they're complaining and saying that the system is broken. We need more doctors here. Not too many people in their right mind here even want to become a doctor any more; it's a lot of education for a job that most doctors don't seem to enjoy doing.

The lack of doctors here has very little to do with the medical system itself. It stems from the fact that we do not educate enough doctors. We only have so many medical school spaces, and some of the graduates leave for the US.

They're right, we're losing GPs are a slow but steady rate because of the public-only system we have up here. Defending the current system is the most ridiculous thing this country engages in.

That said, you're wrong. You're not adopting our system - why would you? As I've said over and over, only two nations in the world have a public-only system: Canada and Cuba. We will eventually (~10 years) allow private care and will become a better system for it. Mind you, that doesn't mean we will move away from a single-payer system - it just means that the private clinics will rise and fall based on how efficient and competitive their services are. Best of both worlds.

For having such high quality health care at less than 50% costs per head, all while being more accessible and better coverage for every person, including those expensive 10% of critical cases that end up being half of the country's health care costs, no matter their income or employment status or previous history of illnesses that would leave their families to bankrupting themselves in the US, seems to be working just fine and rather effectively. Not to mention that our country isnt $10 trillion in debt. Just sayin'

Considering facts or understanding how shit works would be stupid. Thinking that making a 10,000% profit margin on overprescribed ADD pills, pharmaceutical companies making huge incentives for doctors to give out pills like candy, and claiming schooling and roads is a right while access to health care would destroy a country is most definitely the way to go.

As you can see, this isn't the idle talk of a single dissatisfied party. The last three duly elected presidents of the Canadian Medical Association have been proponents of reform to add some amount of private care to the system. It is going to happen.

I very quickly scanned the wall. It has some good points. I guess it's somewhat moot now anyway 🙂 If we go with CBO on that, we go with them on the numbers and they've said the plan as it was outlined would be extremely expensive and increase the deficit, so it's good to see it canned.
