Scientists have just finnished construction of a very large syncrotron on our University Campus, and had an open house today.

Check it and the pictures I took of it out here!

Enjoy!

When the Slobovian navy's rowboat lands on your shore and 6 Slobovian soldiers disembark armed with jawbones and clubs to take over your country you will be sorry that you didn't spend that money on military defense instead.

New record! It took only 2 posts before a completely unrelated thread to Canada's military got hijacked.

It only cost like $170 million, mostly private funding. And much came from US companies. Enjoy.

Some places other then the US believe things other then the military is important. Like Heath Care, Education, Research and so on.

Nice pics, btw. Any idea what kind of reasearch they will be using it for? (I'm looking for something more specific than particle physics).

I only talked to one guy and more about how it works, but he mentioned he examines soils to determine what chemicals are in them.. And he said there is a group interested in microprocessor research..

If you havent already, this sheads a *little* more light on what they are doing.

You're in Saskatoon too ?!??! DAMN! Now I can't feel special about being the only person from Saskatchewan who posts on here. :frown:

Anyway, back to topic, it is quite impressive I must say...

Yeah, you guys may have the new synchrotron, but my Lions have a home playoff game and your Riders don't :D

Cool thing though. I'm an astrophysics/physics/particle physics major in 4th year at UBC. I'd love to see some more about what that thing can do. I've sort of followed its progress on and off over the past while.

Now if we could scare up enough money for a muon collider... That'd freaking rule.
