You should volunteer to carry the camera for the close ups.

We finally have a government that believes in the CF. For the first time for 30 years they are pumping the military budget.

Military budget a few years ago - $8 billion in the $0.60 dollar days

Military budget now - $13 billion in the $0.80 dollar days, plus $12.8 billion over the next 5 years. This places us 6th (out of 19) in NATO for spending...

PLUS

The government just spent $18 billion cash in exactly what you said--logistics. We're ramping up to have the largest C-17 Galaxy fleet in the world, next to the Americans of course :). 4 ordered with 17 options.

Good improvements but how much does Canada really need (tanks, planes, etc)? Anyone who attacked Canada would have to deal with the US as well.

Only one problem with the C 17 fleet........ they are shutting the program down.

I am totally digging this new Conservative government for realizing that we need to smartly bulk up in terms of military force. No, we don't need a thousand Main Battle Tanks, but angling our forces to be independent of movement and logistical support is absolutely crucial today. The world's going to get messier before it gets more peaceful.

We have had many Canadians lost in this war and has been highly controversial; poking fun of our military capabilities are uncalled for. JTF2 is one of the world's most respected special ops force; these guys are on the front lines risking their lives.

Word to that man. We also got the best snipers in the world.

Apparently, when the brits and yanks were storming the beaches at normandie, the canadians were climbing the fvcking cliffs doen the coast under fire. I bet the toughest part was luggeing their unfeasably large balls up...

Juno was the 2nd/3rd worst beach to take, the Yanks pulled Omaha which was by far the worst of the bunch.

I am proud of our soldier out there. And if anybody has any doubt about the effectiveness of the Canadian troops, read the news out of Afghanistan from the last 3 or 4 days. The Canadians killed 70+ Talibans this weekend.

Way to go troops.

Yeah, I think Juno is considered 2nd worst, right after Omaha.

In the first hour of the assault on Juno Beach, the Canadian forces suffered approximately 50 percent casualty rates, comparable to those suffered by the Americans at Omaha Beach. Once the Canadians cleared the seawall (about an hour after leaving the transports) they started to advance quickly inland and had a much easier time subduing the German defences than the Americans at Omaha had. By noon, the entire 3rd Canadian Division was ashore and leading elements had pushed several kilometres inland to seize bridges over the Seulles River. By 6:00pm they had captured the town of Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer. A 1st Hussars armoured troop reached its objective along with men of the Queen's Own Rifles before nightfall, when both units moved 15 km inland and crossed the Caen-Bayeux highway.[1] However, this troop was forced to pull back because they had passed the supporting infantry. By the end of D-Day the 3rd Canadian Division had penetrated farther into France than any other Allied force, though counter-attacks by elements of two German armoured divisions would stop any further movement for several weeks.

By the end of the next day, the Canadian forces joined with the British forces that had landed at Sword Beach.

The Juno Beach Centre at Courseulles-Sur-Mer, commemorates the Canadian liberation forces efforts and is a memorial to the lives lost.
