Canada's national do-not-call list sucks

I keep getting random numbers phoning my cell phone. If it's a number I do not recognize, I let it go to voicemail and put the number into google. 99% of the time it's a telemarketer who leaves no message and I end up on one of those sites that list phone numbers of telemarketers.

I signed up for the national do-not-call list a few months ago, yet I keep getting calls. I just got one a few minutes ago so I put it into google. After a few clicks I came across this story:

Story@global

The gist of the story is that the news agency signed up as a telemarketer, paid a $50 fee, and then got a list of 600000 phone numbers in the Toronto area code. This list is the do-not-call list, provided to the telemarketers so they know who not to call. It is being given out to anyone who registers and pays the fee, even offshore telemarketers, who are not bound by Canadian law to not call these numbers. It's essentially a list of 600000 phone numbers for them to call.

Stupid people...lol; can't even do an ellipsis correctly.

I cancelled my land line a while back, which is where I received the majority of those calls, but I was never on any list. Now that I am exclusivey using my cellphone though, I can honestly say I have yet to receive a single call from a telemarketer. Maybe I'm just lucky?
