"Canada's 'Beautiful Mind' Wins Fight to Shun Drugs"

Although Starson, 47, has no formal scientific training, he is the author of papers on topics such as anti-gravity. His thinking was termed "10 years ahead of its time" by a professor at Stanford University in California.

But since 1985 he has shown increasing signs of mental illness and delusion. In 1998 he was found not criminally responsible of uttering death threats and a court ordered he be detained in a maximum security mental institution in Ontario.

In various media interviews over the years Starson has claimed to be married to U.S. comedienne Joan Rivers and said that Pope John Paul works for him.

Please tell me this guy didn't successfully breed, or I will lose all hope for the human species.

He has schizophrenia... it's not his fault he's delusional. Would you blame somebody that was born mentally retarded for being dumb?

I blame you for being retarded... but others get a free pass.

more power to him. who was it that decided he was "mentally ill" in the first place? society. and who is it that wants to force him to think the same way as everyone else? society. if there was no society, he wouldn't have been considered mentally ill in the first place.

now i'm not saying we should strip naked and live in the woods, but there's too much focus on creating "ideal citizens"

What's with the Stanford professor that thinks this guy's thinking is 10 years ahead of it's time? What does that mean? He expects people to be delusional 10 years from now?

Interesting. What's the deal with mental illness and Uber-Intelligent people anyways?

Yeah, it seems like the smarter someone is, the more mentally unstable they are.

Its all chemical. I think its coincidence.

Well let's see if I have the facts, the guy is super intelligent but suffers from schizophrenia and they want to use the medicines of the day so he can live a normal life.

I have no doubts that the drugs can have side effects but I have also seen people go off there meds and it's not a pretty sight. Trying to calm a schizophrenic or bipolar patient is a major task.

BTW: why do people hate mentally ill people so much ?
