This goes for pretty much any Religious Tribunal. People, both Women and Men, prefer to go to these Tribunals for purely Religious reasons. That's a pile of Fail in my opinion, but their Choice is their Choice.
All parties have to agree; one of those parties is agreeing to be sytemically abused.

I'm open to accusations of paternalism here, but I think that's unacceptable.

It's their Choice. Same issues are present in Christian and Jewish tribunals. There's no reason to reject a Muslim equivalent. Rejecting the whole Idea about Religious based Tribunals is another issue though.

I reject it for reasons stated in my previous post.

That paranoid nuttiness? I reject your Slippery Slope of Fail.

Not just the slippery slope, I don't agree with any religous tribunal so why should I accept this one?

"Sharia law" is a despical thing (and it's not alone) and has no place in Canada in any form.

BTW note that the people who attacked me for saying that the government has a duty to protect its youngest citizens from their parents are opposed to Sharia law for the same reason. I don't see anybody saying "Don't tell me how to stone my daughter"

The BBC article popped up on their site. Seems to happen every so often. Yeah, it's been dismissed years ago. It will never happen anyway. Sharia violates some pretty big and important parts of the constitution.

15. (1) Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and, in particular, without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability.

Although there's this...
15. (2) Subsection (1) does not preclude any law, program or activity that has as its object the amelioration of conditions of disadvantaged individuals or groups including those that are disadvantaged because of race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability.

I doubt creating a whole separate legal system would hold up to a charter challenge, as this is meant for "affirmative action" laws.

So is this happening or not?

In Europe Sharia law is already active in muslim-majority neighborhoods. Not much you can do about it when they collective vote in leftist that will turn the other way or silently support it for votes.

honor killings make up the majority of unnatural deaths for women in the muslim world. I know more muslims die every year in honor killings than in terrorism.

Over 9,000 annually in north Pakistan alone.

So today, thats' 24 otherwise innocent human beings murdered by their families for daring to masturbate. Or having the audacity to date someone of a different religion. Or *gasp* refuse to have sex with their appointed spouse.

Fucking bullshit. Call a spade a spade leftards.
