i was wondering if you can build a pc to function as a wireless router? I do know you can use software to make it into a wired router but what about wireless, are there any differences?

I've done it with OpenBSD, and I know its possible to do with NetBSD, FreeBSD, DragonflyBSD, and Linux.

If the second NIC is Wireless than it is a Wireless Router using Ad-Hoc Mode. I.e the client computers' Wireless has to be configured in Ad-Hoc mode too.

Does it work very well? Nah, but it is a choice if you have No other solution.

Be careful with which wireless network card you buy for Linux/*BSD. They're picky thanks to some (mostly american) companies being idiots.

You can actually setup linx/*BSD systems as access points, instead of just sharing through ad-hoc.

if you are going to try this, I would look for a proxim card, as that can do AP stuff in *nix easy
