Can you use verizon outside of the US yet?

Last time i was with verizon, i had no signal outside of the US, which is one of the big reasons why I switched to Tmobile. I'm now thinking of switching back for better local service, but am a bit concerned about their non US service.

Have they improved their network outside of the US yet? Is it on par with other carriers?

Verizon is CDMA. Until they switch to GSM, they'll have to build out their own network from scratch in other countries because very few use CDMA. Probably won't happen anytime soon.

I have not been outside the US but they do have at least one Blackberry model that is sold as a world phone I am sure there is more info at vzw.com

As Abaez said, Verizon is on a different type of telecommunications technology called CDMA. CDMA is used in the US (Sprint and Verizon), Canada, India, China and a few other smaller countries. AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM - which is used pretty much everywhere else (except Japan).

Verizon is moving to LTE with trials starting later this year - which puts them on path to join the next worldwide standard. LTE is in trials in parts of Europe right now. Still, LTE is years off...

I travel to Europe every year. Verizon and Sprint are both CDMA. In Europe today, you need GSM. In Europe, T-Mobile is probably your best bet. That is owned by the German telecom.

Hopefully LTE is adopted and readily available soon, and hopefully Verizon get's their LTE network rolling along just as soon. Finally a time when a universal network both in and out of the US is actually very likely...
