Can you use an Alkaline charger for NiMh?

A friend of mine just picked up a new battery charger and pack of batteries. 4 AA's. Anyway, I told her to make sure they were NiMh and not Nickel-Cadmium. She ended up getting Alkaline batteries, now I'm wondering if these are completely different from NiMh or NiCd batteries, or if there is alkaline in both/one of them and I just didn't see it.

Can you use an Alkaline charger for NiMh?

I think that the rechargeable alkaline only lasted around 25 recharges? I haven't seen them in stores for a long time though.

Yeah I wasn't sure they even made Alkaline rechargables, I'm guessing they will last maybe 2 photos in an A80...

Well, if they are Alkaline rechargeable, they will last as long as normal disposable alkalines for the first 25 charges (or some small number).

When I got my new camera, I was talking to tech support and they told me to make sure I never used alkaline in the camera. I didn't ask why.

🙂

NiMh lasts for hundreds of charges. You just have to compare the capacity of both batteries to see which will last longer.

For something like a cordless mouse alkalines would last longer then NiMH's. NiMHs work best for high-current devices, like digi cams😉

nihm lasts longer per charge in high drain devices like cameras. alkaline is for stuff like clocks that need to last for long periods with low low drain, nihms and other rechargables lost like 1% a day regardless making em useless for such tasks. alkaline recharables last 25 if ur lucky. thats if you charge like a nutter way before it gets empty. u can search dansdata.com for info on such things i u want. some neat nihms are the rayovac ic3 ones. 15 minute charge. damn convenient.

Alright thanks so much for the quick responses guys 🙂
