Can you use a server motherboard for a regular pc?

Can I use a motherboard like This for a dual core, dual opteron build(4 cores), stick an X1900XT in it with 2GB of ram and use it for gaming, thanks.

yes, but games are hardly coded for dual core, let alone a SMP box.

well, I know games aren't coded for dual core, but this is for extreme multitasking and other work, but I want to game on it too.

what are you going to be doing that needs that much multitasking power, gaming, video encoding, and burning a dvd all at the same time?

define what you're going to be doing so you don't spend more than you need to. a highend amd x2 might be more than enough for you.

EDIT: also, more than likely, the motherboard requires REG ECC ram, which are much more expensive than unbuffered ram.

Be sure the motherboard will fit in the case, otherwise it will work at home. Server motherboards are generally larger than ATX.

video encoding and gaming, compressing enormous files, graphics rendering, not at the same time though, the cost of 2 dual core cpu's might be a lot and the power could be overkill, I want to use one of these opterons in person before making this decision.

That board needs an E-ATX case, EPS12V PSU, ECC registered RAM, and 200-series Opterons.

I was reading that having 4 cores can actually be slower than 2 cores, so I doubt I'll get 4 cores, thanks for your input guys.
