Can You Use a Samsung 191t LCD with a Powerbook?

My friend is getting a PC and wants to get a Samsung 191t LCD monitor for it. He also owns an Apple Powerbook. Can he connect to the Samsung to the PC using the digital cable, and simultaneously to the Powerbook using the analog cable, and then just switch between the two with the A/B switch on the front of the monitor? Or does he need some kind of convertor and/or switching box? Thanks!

Shouldn't be a problem. It becomes one if you want the Apple to do DVI, but normal VGA is not a problem.

Check which model. AFAIK, only the last of the PowerBook G3s (from early 2000) has a VGA port. The earlier ones have a different port. To make the older ones VGA-compatible you'll need a converter, which is about $10 or so (if you can find it).

Does he have Firewire? The Firewire one is the last PowerBook G3, and it has VGA.

BTW, I think the max res. on those PowerBooks is 1280x1024, which is OK, since that's the native res. of the Samsung 191T.

Turns out it is the Firewire G3. I notice the spec sheet says it has a "VGA Style" port, I assume this means a standard VGA port. Thanks again.

jdogg, do you have it hooked up to a PC at the same time? I'm wondering if you can have both hooked up and turned on, and just switch back & forth with the exit button on the front of the monitor.

Yes, I use DVI to hook up my Powerbook and HD15 to hook up my PC, the exit button will switch the two and provides for a really smooth space saving solution.
