I am going to try to fix my friend's airsoft gun, and I want to first test his battery, can I use my multimeter? And if so, which setting should I turn it on for reading?

What do you want to test? Voltage? I don't see why you wouldn't be able to...

Yes you can. If you want to test voltage, set it for DC, at a range whose max is higher than any expected output. It will be polarity sensitive, pos to pos, neg to neg (pos is the red lead on the VOM). Current readings are a different matter, but you can do it if you need to, you just need more instructions.
