Can you thread the needle?

I. e. how good are you at sewing? I just repaired a hole on the front of my flannel pyjamas (wear and tear due to washing) but the repair is by no means invisible. Strong enough though, I made sure to use enough double thread. I guess they will simply tear elsewhere in a few months.

I can only use thread and needle, and simply for rudimentary repair. My mom tried to teach me how to use a sewing machine but I had little interest in this. To give you an idea how long ago that was, the sewing machine was pedal-activated.

I can manually sew pretty well. I seldom work to my potential cause I get bored with the process, but I can do it. I never learned to use a machine. I briefly tried once, but I couldn't figure it out without looking at a manual, so I put it away.

My great-grandmother had one of these beautiful Singers

I wanted to keep it after my grandparents died, but my folks thought it was an old POS. It had a beautiful wood table too. Nothing like today's plastic crap.


When you think about it, those old treadle powered machines were very green, no electricity needed and you got a tiny bit of exercise keeping them powered up.

My mom had a Singer treadle also when I was young and I too got my foot under the paddle once. Almost got my fingers caught in the wringer-drying rollers on top of her old washing machine too. Good thing there was a release mechanism for when that happened (happened to my mom).
