Nope, the better ones don't "burn" or "sting" as they go down, nor do they cause an involuntary clenching reflex as you try to down it straight.

In fact, top shelf vodkas can be drank as shots with a mild warmness to follow, while they have a definite vodka taste, the aftertaste is not dry or bitter but maybe, well, "buttery" is the best way to describe Belvedere.

Today most vodkas, including other premium vodkas, are made from corne, rye, potatoes. Pearl Vodka uses only 100% soft winter Canadian wheat, world-renowned for consistency and quality. Producing alcohol from wheat all but eliminates undesirable, unpotable heavy alcohols and impurities such as fusel oil and acetaldehydes, which can be found in many other vodkas.

The smell of Vodka usually makes me gag, I was talked into taking a shot of this the other night and it was DAMMMMMMMNNNNNN smooth, so much so that I had 5 more straight shots before the night was over, never even needed a chaser

No doubt - after going away from it for a while I think I might be headed back. :)

Bye bye, beer!

I'll leave my gf and her friends drinking their ghetto vodka.

I argue that some products may have prices that are inflated more than their quality justifies but think that Joe Ordinary should be able to tell the difference.

What do YOU think?

I'm a little late joining in....but here's my two cents.

Yes.

Of course. People have tastes. Some people have very ACUTE tastes. They can tell the difference between a good white wine and Mad Dog 20/20, or the difference between a machine-rolled crappy cigar and a hand-rolled, beautiful Dominican or Cuban cigar.

And they can tell the difference between Suck Vodka (Tm) and something like Grey Goose.

I like my Grey Goose like I like my women:

On the rocks, dirtier than hell and with 3 olives.

That made no sense.

Goodnight.

as far as vodka goes i've had McCormick's, Potter's, and Bellow's. i believe all 3 can be had for under $12 for a 2 liter. McCormick's is head and shoulders above the other two, but thats not saying much....:p

What I know about vodka:

-Potato is supposedly better than grain.
-Vodka means "little water".
-I'll never drink it.

My vote is for Tanqueray. I like it even better than the oft-mentioned names like Grey Goose, Belvidere and Ketel One.
And it ain't that expensive.

I used to drink Absolut but have drank Kettle One for a while. Recently someone turned me on to Grey Goose which is smoother but I think I prefer Kettle One overall. It's got a good Vodka taste to it, Goose has no taste unless you add a lot and then it's too strong.

Anyone want to list their favorite Vodka drinks? I like cranberry juice and vodka but the trendy Red Bull and vodka is a good deal for me most of the time.
